Endura Creates 'The Don' Cycling Kit to Help Support Medical Expenses for Ironman World Record Holder Tim Don

Endura has released a special edition kit - 'The Don' Race Jersey'The Don' Men's Race Bibshort & 'The Don' Women's Race Bibshort - to raise funds for Ironman world record holder Tim Don, the British triathlete badly injured in a car accident on the Hawaiian island of Kona, during a training ride made just days before last year’s Ironman world championships.

Tim, an Endura athlete since 2015, is in the process of staging a full recovery from a broken neck, but only after a gruelling 13 weeks in a Halo device: an extended neck brace, secured by retaining screws mounted in his skull.

To help reduce the financial burden of Tim’s medical expenses, Endura has released a special edition ’TD’ cycling kit, comprised of Pro SL Custom jersey and bibshorts (for men and women) - the same as worn by Movistar Team and Cervélo Bigla - handmade in Scotland. All profits from sales of the ‘TD’ kit will go to Tim.
The elegant blue design is enhanced with a geometric pattern in red, white and blue: a nod to Tim’s appearances for Great Britain at three Olympic Games. Further subtleties include Tim’s Ironman world record time of 7:40:23, printed on the rear of the jersey and on the hem of the shorts, and his nickname - ‘The Don’ – printed on the chest.
Jim McFarlane, Endura’s founder and managing director, said that the kit had been inspired by Tim’s courage and tenacity in the face of an injury that others might have regarded as career-ending.
“It’s hard to say if we were more shocked by Tim’s Instagram video from a hospital bed in Kona last October, or the film posted six weeks later from a gym in Colorado, that showed him training on a static bike in his Halo device,” he said.
“Tim’s determination to return to competition is one of the many qualities that set him apart, even from competitors in a sport as gruelling as long-distance triathlon. A broken neck would convince many professional athletes to call it a day, but for Tim, even severe injury is fuel to his competitive fire.
“We’re delighted to be able to support Tim by donating all profits from sales of our special edition ’TD’ kit, designed and handmade by our custom division in Scotland. By using our flagship Pro SL Custom jersey and bibshorts, the same we supply to Movistar Team and Cervélo Bigla, we hope to celebrate the commitment Tim has shown to his sport.”
Tim was hit by a car while training on Kona’s Queen K highway, three days before the Ironman World Championships in October 2017. He had been one of the pre-race favourites after an exceptional season. Last May, he set a new world record for an Ironman-sanctioned, long-distance triathlon, by recording a time of 07:40:23 in Florianopolis, Brazil.
Tim races in Endura’s QDC triathlon collection, designed in collaboration with Drag2Zero, and tested in the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 wind tunnel in Brackley, Northamptonshire. Tim’s feedback has helped develop a collection that was used last year by Tim, Lucy Charles, Rachel Joyce, Joe Skipper and Nils Frommhold to win a host of pro-level triathlons.
