Joe Skipper Takes European Long Distance Triathlon Champion Title
British Ironman Joe Skipper was crowned European Champion Long Distance Triathlon on Saturday 9 September during CHALLENGEALMERE-AMSTERDAM in Almere, the Netherlands, the only competitor to post a sub 8 hour time.
The severe weather of strong winds and heavy rain didn’t hamper Joe. Coming out of the water a couple of minutes back, he gained several places on the bike leg to move in to 4th at the start of the run. A hard fought battle with Ukrainian Viktor Zyemtsev saw Skipper go “full force”, even managing a sprint to finish in an incredible time of 7.59.39. Viktor Zyemtsev came second (8.03.14) and the Slovakian Jaroslav Kovacic finished third (8.05.40).
Clearly delighted his win Joe commented “Over the moon to win @challengealmere today. European long distance champion sounds good! I've been the bridesmaid plenty of times and today I'm finally the bride! 👰😊 I made a pact with myself back in 2015 that I would get a coffee machine when I win my next pro race, it's been a long time coming but now I'm finally getting my coffee machine!”
Joe was racing in one of the first production pieces of the new Endura D2Z Aeroswitch helmet on the bike leg. Developed in conjunction with Simon Smart of Drag2Zero and using a Koroyd core the Aeroswitch helmet has been extensively tested in the wind tunnel throughout development to optimise aerodynamic efficiency with test results showing it to be the fastest helmet in the world.
